As part of the three-year US Sailing Siebel Sailor Program grant that Sheridan Shore Sailing School was fortunate to receive, Zachary A. Hernandez, Director of Sailing at Sheridan Shore Sailing School, attended a specialized coach training with Olympic coaches at the USA Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

During this 4-day training program, Zachary worked with other Siebel Sailor Program grantees from the Chicago Region (Columbia Sailing School, Jackson Park YC Foundation, and Sheboygan Youth Sailing Center), the Mid-Atlantic Region (DC Sails, Downtown Sailing Center, and Baltimore County Sailing Center), and San Francisco Region (Treasure Island Sailing Center, Alameda Community Sailing Center, and Golden Gate Yacht Club Youth Sailing Foundation), as well as staff from US Sailing and the Siebel Sailing Program. They did everything from sailing-yoga to wheelchair basketball.

The selected Siebel coaches worked with some of the top coaches, sports psychologists, and educators in America to explore how to train young athletes in a positive environment that encourages the growth, excellence, and sustainability of our sport. #zarmy #siebelsailors #rssailing

US Sailing Siebel Sailors Program

Sheridan Shore Sailing School was recently named a US Sailing Siebel Sail Center recipient. This is a tremendous honor. Recipient locations must be an accredited U.S. Sailing Community Sailing Center, and a 501(c)3 organization with community access to sailing opportunities/facilities. The Program’s purpose is to increase opportunity and diversity in the sport of sailing by providing resources and support to youth sailors, regardless of socio-economic background, at 9 public access sailing centers across the country. Chicago, San Francisco, and the Mid-Atlantic were the first 3 Siebel Centers to be identified. The Siebel Sailors Program will increase skill development, enrich our existing sailing programming, and provide learning opportunities on RS Feva XL boats coached by a US Sailing certified Siebel coach. We are excited to incorporate Siebel Sailors into our SSSS community.

New Floating Dock Spring 2020

The Sailing School has begun construction on a new floating dock in order to be ready for the start of our Spring High School Season. Wilmette Harbor Club and Sheridan Shore Sailing School have partnered to construct a floating dock in the harbor for the sailing school 420 fleet. With the new floating dock, we will be able to simultaneously launch all boats and spend more time on the water for practice. 6 sections of the dock are complete. Thank you to WHC for all the support.
