Sheridan Shore Sailing School - Wilmette Illinois

News from Sheridan Shore On-The-Water

Sheridan Shore Race Weekend

It was a terrific weekend for sailboat racing. The wind/conditions were near perfect with the exception of a large windshift on Day 1 that miraculously went 180 degrees, which meant the courses still had integrity to the wind. With Cruising Division and One Designs, the Race Committee ran great races and provided the competitors with lasting memories of wonderful sailing.

Star District 4 Championship

2023 marks the 100th year of Star sailing at Wilmette Harbor. Hosting the District Championship was an honor and the competition was fierce, as expected. With competitors traveling in from all over the Midwest, the racing was incredible and camaraderie was spectacular.

On-The-Wire Regatta

For the 2nd year in a row, the Sheridan Shore Sailing School ran the mid-summer regatta for the Gillson Beach based On-The-Wire group. With a 1 mile course adjacent to the beach, over 30 boats took part in the event. Lots of smiles and stories after the race, which was then capped off with a beach tug-of-war competition.

Sheridan Shore Race Team

This summer we’ve worked with very keen sailors to hone their skills and elevate their skills into competition mode. We are delighted to report that our Optimist Team (ages 7-13) had a tremendous showing at the LMSRF (Lake Michigan Federation) Championships in Waukegan. Our sailors brought home 1, 2, 4 overall in the Optimist division, which is a great result for the team as they all have worked hard all summer!

Sheridan Shore Summer Sailing – Youth & Adult

Friday, August 11th marked the close of our summer youth learn to sail programming. With 26 instructors sharing their knowledge with hundreds of kids, this year’s program was another smashing success. Thank you to everyone at Wilmette Harbor for your overwhelming support of all Sheridan Shore programming.

On the adult side, our 101 and 102 classes are very popular and we will continue teaching eager adults through October. New this year was our Adult Power Class, which will be a mainstay for many years to come. Check out our adult offerings at
