The Wilmette Harbor Club, located north of Chicago on Lake Michigan, includes a clubhouse with both indoor and outdoor dining, a gas dock, and mooring for several hundred boats. Since 1929 the Wilmette harbor's Sheridan Shore Yacht Club has hosted sailboat fleet racing during the summer months. Wilmette harbor is also home to the Sheridan Shore Sailing School for both adults and children.

Sunday, June 28th's All Fleet Handicap Race saw 20 competitors on the starting line representing 11 different boat designs from 18’ Arrows to 40’+ cruisers.

Skies were clear with winds out of the NE at 2 to 8kts. Our course was # 2, a triangle with a windward leeward leg at the end. The J70’s (PHRF’s may need some adjusting :-) ) took the top 3 finish positions followed by a healthy mix of designs filling in the rest of the finish positions suggesting that the handicapping is working reasonably well.

This was one of the best turnouts SSYC has seen in years and really was a lot of fun for all regardless of experience level.

Please come out to join us for the next All Fleet Race July 19th. Powerboats are welcome to come out to watch and cheer on their favorites.

A big thanks to Doug and Elsa Felten (PRO’s) for running the race from the committee boat!
