The Wilmette Harbor Club, located north of Chicago on Lake Michigan, includes a clubhouse with both indoor and outdoor dining, a gas dock, and mooring for several hundred boats. Since 1929 the Wilmette harbor's Sheridan Shore Yacht Club has hosted sailboat fleet racing during the summer months. Wilmette harbor is also home to the Sheridan Shore Sailing School for both adults and children.

SSYC sailboat racing is in full swing and we would like to encourage those of you with sailboats to come out and join us. Lake Michigan is a big place and we have room for lots more racers.

It’s a great way to improve your sailing skills and build camaraderie. It’s a great family sport and a great way to work together as a team.

The first “gun” to begin the races is at 1:30. The first class starts 10 minutes after that and subsequent classes start in 5 minute increments. The races usually last about an hour and 15 minutes, depending on how much wind we have. Each fleet of sailboats (i.e. J/70, Soling, Rainbow, Flying Scot, Arrow, Dolphin and Cruising) has a Captain.

Fleet and Captain List

Check with your captain if you would like to know more about racing. As a member, you can find all member contact information in the member directory so you can reach out. If you would like to serve on the Committee Boat, please let Commodore, John Kennedy, know. See you out there!!
